Biography

Kristen Pobatschnig creates abstract artwork inspired by water, light, and movement. Her artist journey began as a painter and dancer, and currently she is combining movement with art in creating kinetic sculptures. She is located in Incline Village, Nevada. A New Hampshire native, she has public art installations in the Mount Washington Valley area, and has been recognized as one of the top female artists to watch in the state by New Hampshire Magazine. Recently she began a Colors in Space clothing line which features reproductions of her paintings on garments as well as original hand-painted silk wear. She offers workshops that combine art with nature and meditation. She has collaborated with numerous artists, dancers, musicians, and scientists throughout her creative journey, and is inspired by many.

Artist Statement

I would like my work to serve as a break from reality as we know it. I invite the viewer to share a dance between time and space, to revel in wonder, and to enjoy the colors and textures of nature and light. What can't we see with human vision? Visible light is a fraction of energy we see on the electromagnetic spectrum, which leads me to further explore the vast representations of colors in space.
When I paint, I begin painting by almost dancing with the canvas; In an Abstract Expressionistic approach, I lay out canvases flat on the floor, and I begin painting while rarely using paintbrushes. Combining layers of pointillism and abstract expressionism, I look to capture the expression of fleeting light and tranquility of mind and space. Light, water, and movement are my main subjects.
