Family Hike Guide. I am called back to the trees after 15 years away. I am an educator and fierce defender of childhood. I am coming back to life with the power of nature through experience, family and community. Family Hikes are designed for hiking with children with more of a relaxed playful experience.
Rick Ramos is a California Naturalist, Sierra Club hike leader at Group, Chapter and National levels, and an avid outdoorsman. Growing up in Dutch Flat he acquired an intimate knowledge of our Sierra Nevada as he developed his passion for the outdoors – which has since had him traveling from Baja to Alaska. Same featured artists and art hike route.
I strive to find something interesting to focus on everywhere I go. I look forward to sharing an art hike with you to see what we can experience together. I am a musician, photographer and woodworker.

The future of our spectacular Tahoe environment will soon be in the hands of today’s youth. I am passionate about giving children an opportunity to experience our mountains, connect with plants and animals that call this place home, and develop a love for the Sierras that will be passed along to future generations.

Mindfulness Hike for adults
Just as the wave is never separate from the ocean, so we are ever connected with the limitless consciousness pervading our existence. In this hike we will explore our intimacy with all that surrounds us…our connection with Earth and sky, with art, music and dance, with our world both animate and inanimate.
Lover of life, critters, tame and wild. Walk with me to discover the beauty of art and nature
Carmen Carr: Leisure Hike Guide
The theme for my hike is: "Stepping forward filled with Grace"
Grace - simple elegance and refinement in every step reaching the point of effortlessness. Our awareness grows, opening up to our surroundings. The birds and sky above, the dirt and pine needles below our feet, to the performer right in front of us and all in nature. Leisure hikes will offer a slower-paced hike. This hike is suitable for anyone that is in good physical shape but may not be acclimated to high elevation hiking over 7,000 feet.
Forest Bathing Specialty Hike. I believe in humanity.
Nature has my back. Ich folge dir und fuhre dich (I follow you and I guide you).
Felix Brosch will lead you to experience art in nature and share the healing way of Shinrin-yoku, the medicine of simply being in the forest. Shinrin-yoku is a term that means "taking in the forest atmosphere" or "forest bathing."
Jean Founier: Board of Director
Jean Fournier serves as board president. She is a performing poet and expressive artist who is inspired by our natural world. Her work reflects a close affinity for her natural surroundings. With gratitude for time spent in nature throughout her life, she is passionate about furthering the mission of Trails & Vistas as a poet and founding board member. For the Dreaming Tree school field trips, Jean inspires hundreds of children to create poetry along the trail. She’s lived in the Donner Summit-Truckee area since 1986, teaches Art for Tahoe Truckee Unified School District, serves on Truckee’s Public Art Commission, and is delighted about the rise in appreciation of arts and culture in our rural town.
Maria Jones: Board of Director and Historical Tour Chairperson
Maria Jones moved to the Tahoe area after graduating from San Francisco State University with a BA in Outdoor Recreation, interning in Environmental Education. Her experience in outdoor leadership includes years of working with Ropes Courses, which provide opportunities for self discovery as well as group growth. Maria has also facilitated team building programs where every team member’s ideas, abilities and talents are used in different creative challenges. She incorporates these experiences within the Dreaming Tree field trip and while guiding on Art Hikes. Maria’s main contribution to Trails & Vistas is heading the Historical Haunted Tour committee, Trails & Vistas signature fundraiser. Maria's motivation for living in the mountains is skiing. She and her husband Randy moved to Truckee in 1994 where they shared their passion for skiing with their two children, Chelsea and Dylan.
Marie Strassburger: Board of Director
Marie Strassburger is board secretary. Three years ago, she retired from a thirty year career as a professional wildlife biologist, and she and her husband moved to Truckee. Soon thereafter, she formally started her own small business “My Reflections of Nature” Art Quilting. This has provided a great opportunity to bring her lifelong love of nature to her newfound art in creating one-of-a-kind landscape art quilts. As a native Californian, she’s enjoyed recreating in the Sierras most of her life. Moving to Truckee was a natural fit for someone who is a strong advocate for wildlife conservation, and loves recreating in nature year round.
Deb DuHamel: Board of Director
Deb DuHamel moved from Santa Cruz, CA to the Tahoe area in 2019. After a thirty year career in the Bay Area as a Quality Assurance Engineer in Networking, where she served in both management and individual contributor roles. Art has always been part of her life, including in college where she studied in Fine Arts, Art History and Performance Art. She was part of a Menlo Park modern dance group in her 30’s and early 40’s. She opened and operated a contemporary Art Gallery in Carmel, CA from 2009 to 2010. While Deb lived in Bonny Doon, she taught young students arts and crafts from her home. She volunteered for fundraising events for the local grade schools, and catered their annual Arts and Wine Festival in Bonny Doon. She loves reading poetry by the great wilderness authors, hiking in the Eastern Sierras, and taking photos of the dramatic landscapes and wildlife.
